Preparation and Cooking time: 1 hour: Serves 2-3
1 cup Moong Dal Chilka (Green Moong Split with Skin)
¼ Cup Patna Rice or Basmati Rice
1 tbsp Ghee (Clarified Butter)
¾ tsp Turmeric Powder
½ tsp Salt
Combine the moong dal and rice, wash with water thouroughly and strain.
Put the moong dal and rice back into the pan and let it soak in 900ml of water, turmeric and salt for 15 minutes.
Bring it to a boil, then simmer on low heat with a lid on until the water has evaporated and the khichdi is sitting at the bottom of the pan.
Finally, add the ghee and simmer for 2-3 minutes, mix well and serve hot.
NB: You may need to add water about 30ml all way round and let it evaporate.
