Chapati (Rotli)

Ingredients:

3 Cups Wheat Flour

4 tbsp Oil

Ghee for Spreading (Clarified Butter)


Method:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add the wheat flour and oil, then mix well till the oil has combined.

  2. Slowly add in hot water and knead the dough until it becomes soft, leave the dough to rest for 15-30 minutes.

  3. Divide the dough into small balls. There should be about 15-20.

  4. Sprinkle some wheat flour on the balls and thinly roll out the chapati with a rolling pin. They should be about 6-7 inch circles.

  5. To ensure the chapati comes out perfectly keep rotating the chapatis every few seconds.

  6. Heat a tawa pan on a medium flame, place the chapati on the tawa pan, after a few seconds you will notice small air pockets popping out.

  7. Flip and cook about a minute or so then flip again and press down with a tea cloth or wooden roti chapati press, they will start to puff up.

  8. Flip on both side and cook till you see brown spots as the picture below.

  • Once done, put it on a plate and spread about ½ tsp of ghee on top and serve hot.
